Find safe ways for kids to walk to school

Safe Routes takes a comprehensive approach to traffic safety problems near schools, and works with school communities to promote safe and environmentally-friendly conditions for students walking and biking to school.

Safe Routes to School is a five-tiered program utilizing the five “E’s”: engineering, enforcement, education, encouragement, and evaluation. Along with providing capital improvements within school environments, the program also offers parents, teachers, and students an interactive website to research the safest path to school through their own neighborhoods. In addition, the website provides important safety tips for children, and offers a comment section to report potential safety issues and problems to the city. Parents and teachers can also request a speed radar be placed near schools to encourage drivers to slow down.
