Community Health Worker
Program Project Goal:
To increase awareness about healthy lifestyles and the
prevention of common diseases. Project Description: In partnership with the Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Council, the Newtown Wellness Program has created a Community Health Worker Program. Community Health Workers are members of the community who received education about common chronic illnesses, associated risk factors, and the prevention and treatment of those illnesses. They are then taught how to present the information effectively to friends, family, coworkers, fellow church members, and other community members. The Community Health Workers have been responsible for delivering health information to hundreds of residents in the Newtown area.
